About Me

I am an expert writer, editor, proofreader, and researcher with over a fifteen years of experience in higher education administration and executive communications, academic writing and publishing, and development writing for academic, scientific, and medical research.

For my writing portfolio and details of my professional experience, please see my writing page.

In my freelance work, I have collaborated with clients to prepare and edit funding proposals, engaged with multiple contributors to create cohesive materials for annual board of trustee meetings and retreats, published news and alumni magazine articles about student and faculty achievements, and researched institutional histories. In 2025, I also helped a prominent scientist prepare their address for a major research university’s commencement ceremony.

For seven years, I served as Executive Writer and Researcher to the President of the University of Chicago, Robert J. Zimmer. In this role, I was responsible for the judicious use of the president’s voice and advancing the University’s distinctive culture, mission, and values across its global enterprise. I prepared speeches and remarks, announcements, websites, correspondence, reports and position papers, and strategic communications outlining the president’s vision for the coming decade, writing for a broad audiences, which included university trustees, donors, faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community partners.

As a Senior Development Officer at Mount Sinai Health System, my main focus was on the preparation of stewardship reports for major donors and trustees in order to enhance fundraising efforts for scientific and medical research. These bespoke reports were designed to demonstrate the impact of transformative philanthropy and convey gratitude to donors for their support of care and research initiatives and capital projects across the health system. Working in partnership with clinicians and researchers, I delivered stewardship reports on progress and breakthroughs in such areas as early lung cancer screening, Parkinson’s disease detection and progression, and exposomic medicine and environmental health, working to distill complex subject matter into simple and accessible prose for a lay audience.

When I am not writing for others, I enjoy working on my own screenplays, short stories, and novels, predominantly in the comedy and science fiction genres. I am also interested in folklore, the history of comic books, toys, board games, television, and cinema; gaming and fan cultures; and the adaptation of texts across multiple forms of media.

I earned a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago, where I majored in writing and media theory. I also hold bachelor’s degrees in professional writing and creative communication, textual cultures, and clinical nursing from the University of South Australia. My professional background also includes roles in human resources, injury case management, and clinical nursing.

Raised in Adelaide, Australia, I have lived in Japan, Europe, and the United States. The American Pacific Northwest holds a special place in my heart, in particular, the upper Oregon Coast and the San Juan Islands.
